Relaxing to CHANGEpain consists of 3 modules: 

  1. Breath (3 sessions)
  2. Thoughts and Emotions (3 sessions)
  3. Meditation (3 sessions)

Cost: $90 for each module ($30/class)

Discount if you register for all 3 modules:  $240 ($26/class)

If you’re living with chronic pain, you know how stressful it can be. Pain research shows that stress makes pain worse. As a result, many people living with chronic pain end up in a horrible cycle where their pain causes stress, that stress makes the pain worse, which causes yet more stress, and then more pain.

The Relaxing to CHANGEpain Program has been designed to help you break this cycle.

Relaxing to CHANGEpain: Breath

Length: 3 sessions Program Cost: $90 ($30/session)

The Breath module will teach you to better recognize the physiological experience of stress in your body, help you understand the way your breathing patterns effect your stress levels, and give you a chance to practice over ten different breathing exercises that you can start to use to manage your pain right away.

    Relaxing to CHANGEpain: Meditation

    Length: 3 sessions Program Cost: $90 ($30/session)

    Relaxing to CHANGEpain : Meditation will demystify meditation and mindfulness practices by explaining the very practical nature of these pain management tools. You will learn about the research supporting their use in pain management and you will have the opportunity to practice a number of different meditation and mindfulness techniques, as well as guided relaxation practices that will be invaluable resources for your pain management.

    Relaxing to CHANGEpain: Thoughts and Emotions

    Length: 3 sessions Program Cost: $90 ($30/session)

    Thoughts & Emotions will first look at how the brain processes pain. This initial lesson will highlight the essential role that working with our thoughts and emotions plays in pain management, and it will help to expand your understanding of pain – which creates new possibilities for finding pain relief. You will be given the opportunity to start working with a number of different tools, including basic tools from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) which research shows to be a highly effective pain management tool.

    • You are struggling with loss or anger on the way pain has changed your life
    • You feel frustrated because it feels like you've tried everything
    • You have tried self-management programs before and had difficulty sticking to the program
    • Your health care provider recommends it

    Restorative Yoga and Meditation

    Length: 4 sessions       Program Cost: $90 ($22/session)            

    Living with chronic pain can be incredibly exhausting. Not only is pain a draining experience, but people with chronic pain often find themselves bogged down with practitioner appointments and various other things they are doing to try and find some relief. 

    This program in Restorative Yoga & Meditation is an ongoing pre-registered class that is intended to support you by helping you find the time to rest and restore in the midst of the challenges of chronic pain.

    Relaxation and meditation are well-established pain management tools. Restorative Yoga is a relaxation practice where students rest in fully supported in holding poses for longer periods of time. This practice supports the function of the parasympathetic nervous system (also known as the relaxation response).

    Meditation is most simply the practice of bringing your attention back to a particular focus. Often our struggle with pain is made worse by the way we respond to it. Learning to meditate empowers you to shift your focus away from thoughts that don’t support your health and well-being. Regular meditation practice has also been found to change the way the brain processes pain.

    The Relaxing to CHANGEpain program (especially the Meditation & Mindfulness module) is a recommended prerequisite for this program. The prerequisite program will give you an in-depth understanding of why Restorative Yoga & Meditation are so beneficial for people with chronic pain.
