Sarah Borthwick BSc, MOT, PgCPain
Sarah is an Occupational Therapist who is passionate about working with people in pain to help them achieve their goals and increase their quality of life. She completed a B.Sc. in Honours Psychology at the University of Victoria, and then went on to complete a Master of Occupational Therapy at UBC.
Sarah sustained a serious injury at work which introduced her to the challenging world of persistent pain. Through dealing with this and experiencing frustrations in accessing comprehensive care and rehabilitation, she developed a professional interest in working in this area to improve it for others. To complement her personal experiences, she recently completed an 18 month intensive Certificate in Pain Management for health professionals through the University of Alberta. Sarah strives to integrate her personal and professional expertise to work collaboratively with clients in all areas of their life including self-care, work, and leisure.
Sarah also supports individuals who are struggling to manage their pain through Pain Management Coaching. This provides guidance to transition to a lifestyle focused on achieving goals and increasing quality of life. Weekly telephone sessions provide education, motivation, and accountability to take control and develop new lifestyle habits. In addition, Sarah works as an OT at Burnaby Hospital. She is also a volunteer with Pain BC on the Education committee. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, experimenting with recipes in the kitchen, and exploring the outdoors!
