Patrick Yu MD, FRCPC

Dr. Patrick Yu joined CHANGEpain in February 2017

He is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology at the University of British Columbia.   His clinical experience includes 27 years of practice in clinical anesthesia and perioperative medicine in the Fraser Health Authority at the Royal Columbian and Eagle Ridge Hospitals, and the Vancouver Coastal Health Authority, at Vancouver General and UBC Hospitals.  He has had a variety of clinical interests including Trauma, Cardiac Anesthesia, Perioperative Medicine, and ultrasound guided Regional Anesthesia. 

Patrick has been developing the use of Trigger Point Injections to treat Myofascial Pain.  He has been working with Dr. Greg Siren who pioneered myoActivation® , a systematic biomechanical approach to the diagnosis and treatment of myofascial pain that focuses on pinpointing the origin of persistent myofascial distortion.  Along with Dr. Siren, he has now been teaching this technique to other practitioners throughout the province.   

In addition, Patrick is learning a variety of chronic pain injection techniques translating his expertise in ultrasound guided blocks to treat chronic pain issues. 

Most of all, he enjoys discussing everything related to chronic pain and the available treatment paths that are available at CHANGEpain, with a thorough understanding of Pain Neuroscience and utilizing the best available evidence informed approaches.  He will be providing individual consultations, Group Medical Visits with a focus on Pain Neuroscience Education, infusion therapy, and interventional pain management services.
