Malcoln Carvalho Botteon M.D.
Malcon is a Brazilian Physiatrist, Pain Specialist and Sports Medicine Specialist, graduated from the University of São Paulo (USP) in 2004. Before entering the Residency Program at Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (2005-2009), he joined the Brazilian Army as a Lieutenant-Physician. He was a Fellow and Chief Resident in Pain Medicine in Brazil in 2007 and 2009-2011 respectively. He moved to Vancouver in summer 2018 with his family and he is pursuing to build his career as a Medical Doctor in Canada. He is a candidate for the Pain Medicine Fellowship. Currently, he is a Clinical Chronicler at CPC.
He is a specialist in Medical Acupuncture (2005-2007) as well, being a Member of the International Academy for the Study of Pain since 2010, Malcon has been assisting Chronic Pain Patients since the beginning of his career. He worked as Assistant Professor at the University of São Paulo, teaching Pain Physiology, Rehabilitation, and Treatment for the Medicine, Occupational Therapy School and Physiotherapy students as much as training residents of PM&R and Sports Medicine. He was the Physiatrist of the Sports Medicine Clinic (Laboratory of Movement Studies) and the Foot and Ankle Surgery Clinic for the Institute of Orthopaedics and Traumatology - Hospital of Clinics - USP, for almost 10 years.
One of his passion is Exercise and Sports Medicine, being a member of the Brazilian Sports Medicine Society since 2010. He is Member-advisor of the Brazilian Association of Medicine of Remote Areas and Adventure Sports. He was the Head of the Medical Department of the Brazilian Association of Sports Climbing (2016-2019), Team-Physician of the Brazilian Confederation of Skateboard (2015-2018), Team-Physician of the Brazilian Women Soccer Team (2014-2015) and Team-Physician of the Judo Team (2008). Head of the Medical Department of Brazil Paravolley (2008-2018). Doctor of the Paralympic Committee in the Paralympics of London 2012 and Rio 2016. He is also an International Classifier for World Paravolley since 2010 and Doping Control Officer by the Brazilian Association of Doping Control and Member of the World Paravolley Doping Control Commission since 2014.
Malcon's greatest interests are exploring Pain Science and reaching a high performance for treating those conditions. He has great experience in MSK and sports injuries; diagnosing and treating Pain with difficult control and analgesic procedures such as dry needling; trigger point injections; anesthetic blocks, botulinum toxin, Prolotherapy and Shock Wave Therapy. He uses ultrasound technology to establish the MSK diagnosis and to guide the procedures.
Malcon had never stopped doing General Practice, working in ER until 2017 and seeing outpatients regularly until coming to Canada. He believes one of the most important goals to treat pain and to enhance athletes performance is to maximize human's health in all aspects, understanding not only the physiology, biomechanics and neurological pathways but mainly evaluating and approaching the patient as a complete and social being.
Outside of work, he is a former high-performance athlete of Tae Kwon Do, and currently engaged in outdoor sports such as mountaineering, snowboarding, surfing, rock and sports climbing, skateboarding and mountain biking.
