Event Series: Functional Yoga

Functional Yoga

September 17 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Have you ever wished that yoga classes would give you more explanation on exactly HOW to do each pose?

Have you ever taken a public yoga class only to feel like you have no idea what you are doing? This class is an entry-level alignment class that will focus on using yoga postures to strengthen your body, improve your balance, and train your postural muscles. It will include a strong emphasis on exactly how to get your body into the posture, how to target specific muscle groups, and how to modify for different medical conditions.

Krista Friesen has been a student of yoga since 2010, a student in the Iyengar tradition since 2014, and a Pilates practitioner and teacher since 2016. This class will integrate principles from both yoga and Pilates. In this class, she will guide you through traditional yoga postures from an “alignment and function” perspective. Postures and exercises will be chosen to support daily function, strengthen core muscles, and align the body.

Krista encourages an interactive class where questions are welcome and appreciated. You will also be encouraged to turn on your video if you want specific feedback on postures. Unlike in public yoga classes, talking is welcome! Come ask questions, try different options, and use modifications. It will be lighthearted and probably challenging, but in a good way!
